Up2Stream Pro V3 poor sound quality.

Hi to you all. I spent some time realigning all my different set ups ranging from original A31 LinkPlay small audio boards (4 pieces) - one connected to a ESS9018DAC - to Arylics Mini (2 pieces) & V3 pro (1p) and HD DAC (1) board.
The HD DAC has a very good ESS9028 DAC allowing a very good analog HD audio restitution, and one of my Linkplay board is connected to a ESS9018 via I2S that allow a good analog CD like sound. All the other ones are relying on the MVSilicon BP10XX or AP8064 ARM audio controller family to do the digital to analog conversion. And I must say, this is a disaster. I didn’t realize how muffled the original sound is! (i mostly listen to internet radio channels…). Per pure chance, the rationalization of my set ups has led me to connecting the Pro v3 to a small well designed FIIO dac (D03) based on 2 Cyrius chip allowing 192/24 conversion, using the SPDIF output of the Arylic board. What a change this makes!

I didn’t dig in the circuits to check if the coupling capacitors in the analog audio path are of sufficient values to allow bass frequencies restitution and if the low pass filter after conversion is well designed to allow a large BW. These two edges of the audio spectrum are clearly not well handled in the genuine Arylics design…

So, for those of you who didn’t add an external DAC yet, give it a try, a simple DAC board for a couple of euros will open your ears to new horizons, even if most of the Arylic products are limited to 44.1khz/16bit in restitution…

Looking forward having some thoughts from other audio fans…
