Sardine multiroom box

(English below)

Hello,

This is my third multiroom project. It’s not my biggest challenge, but it’s an aesthetic object that I enjoyed working on. Maybe I should have started with this one actually!

In short, just like my first integration in a biscuit tin, I continued with the same idea of upcycling, this time using a sardine tin. Empty, of course. There are some really nice ones and I’ve been wanting to tinker with one of them for a while.

I am again using a multiroom reception card from Arylic, the Up2stream pro v3. It’s not an amp, it connects via a mini line out jack to an active amp or cabinet. It only needs a 5v power supply via micro usb or terminal block.

The dremmel cuts were easier because the metal is much thinner, the finishes are neater and the card integrates very discreetly, I am very happy with the evolution of my technique.

I made a mask from the outlines of the card outputs which I then “picked” with my son’s pick to hollow out the cardboard and be able to directly mark the outlines indelibly on the box, which made me avoided some “cross-outs” I had made on the cookie tin.

This project is really not complicated in itself. I’ve learned from my previous projects and I’m starting to get better and better at unsoldering the elements. I add a certain amount of tin on the solder and let it sit on it, as soon as it comes off just pull gently. And here is a pretty little led. Then I clean up what’s left with desoldering braid. This time I didn’t burn out any LEDs and I was able to reuse them by extending them in order to place them on the top of the box, discreet but present. On the other hand, I must admit that I still burned the resistance of the first LED. Fortunately, a connection is possible via the pins of the expansion board.

The box being metallic, I isolated the bottom in contact with the card in order to avoid any problem. I covered the bottom of the box with a thin layer of glued cork.

There you go, she just has to join an amp… but what will it look like?
