Finished up my winter project. Kinda ghetto, but works pretty well. Arylic Airplay2 DAC in an old Sony Dolby noise reduction box from the 70’s. Added a Meanwell power supply and some random VU meter driver board to make the needle bounce. Retasked the spring loaded buttons to press on a series of micro switches I stole out of some old dvd player. Now they do track fwd and back, play/pause. Added one button to the face to change the mode and allow for reset and BT pairing. Hacked the little display into the faceplate and 3D printed a bezel for it.
No plan to use optical out or Ehernet connections, if a need arises I’ll figure out how to add the connectors to the backplane. For now, WiFi connectivity and Bluetooth are working just fine. Line input is wired up but I don’t know why I’d ever use it. Someday I’ll get the IR remote and add a receiver in the other hole on the faceplate.
Turned out kinda nice. Sounds really good. Dead quiet. A fun little hack.
